Interviewer instructions
Except for a few in-migrants who have not been caught as VIS in the HRB, you will be able to pick most in-migration dates from the destination household in the HRB. This is the VIS date. You should avoid recording in-migration dates in the In-Migration Form that are different from the VIS date in the HRB. If there are differences, make corrections on the wrong one so as to have the two dates coincide.

Ask the date when the in-migrant moved to the current residence and record the Day (two digits), Month (2 digits) and Year (4 digits) in the boxes provided. Note that people may take days or weeks to move their belongings to the new place of residence; our interest here is in the date when the individual actually moved and started sleeping in the new place of residence. Code '99' if the Day and/or Month of migration are not known.

CAUTION: all in-migration dates must be after the initial census for the destination area. As with other events (deaths and pregnancy outcomes), in-migrations that occurred before the DSS initial census are not of interest to us. We do not even have enough paper to record such movements. The DSS initial census is 23/09/00 for each of the four EAs of our current NUHDSS. If the person migrated to the HH by September 2000, and was temporarily absent on Date of initial census for the HH, treat him/her as a miss-out and discard Migration Form.
