Interviewer instructions
Q.104 asks about the place the respondent lived just before she moved to her current residence. If she has lived in more than one place before, we want to know which type of place was the last one before her current place of residence. That is why we say “just before.”

The response codes are explained below:

WITHIN SAME SLUM- refers to locations within the slum where the woman is currently living. For instance she could have moved from Silanga to Gatwekira within Kibera, you would select this option.

ANOTHER SLUM IN NRB- This refers to a location within another Nairobi slum for instance you interview a woman in Silanga in Kibera who tells you she had been living in Gatina in Kawangware just before coming to the current place; then you will select this otpion.

NON SLUM PART OF NRB- refers to what is commonly known as 'estates' in Nairobi e.g. Ngummo, Kileleshwa, Buruburu etc

ANOTHER TOWN- refers to other urban centres in Kenya e.g. Kiambu town

RURAL VILLAGE- refers to locations in the country side ('ushagu'/'mashambani')

BOARDING SCHOOL- refers to those women who were in a boarding school and they tell you that they have completed or are on holidays. We shall select for such women this option.

OUTSIDE KENYA- refers to places that are found beyond the international boundaries of Kenya e.g. from Somalia; Sudan; Tanzania etc

OTHER- refers to any other place that does not seem to fit any of the categories listed. You must specify the nature of the place if you select OTHER.
