Interviewer instructions
The purpose of this question is to capture some of the cultural values that are unique to different groups. However, you should be tactful in asking this question as people might be sensitive about their ethnic identities following the post-election violence. Explain to the respondent why we are asking this question to avoid any misunderstandings. Do not assume someone's ethnicity from the name as some names are shared across different ethnic groups- for instance Maina can be a Kikuyu or Kalenjin; Ndolo can be a Kamba or Luo etc.
