Interviewer instructions
The objective of these questions is to find out some information for women age 15-24 about the circumstances at the time the woman first had sex.

Q. 620 is of interest because if used correctly, condoms can reduce the risk of transmission of

AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections as well as prevent a pregnancy.

Qs. 621-625 are used to obtain information on the extent of the age gap between young women and their partners. Note that Q. 621 is concerned with the partner's age at the time the couple first had intercourse and not his age at the time of the NCSS-II interview. Record this age in completed years. If the respondent does not know how old her partner was when they first had sex, then you will ask Qs. 622 and 623 in order to try to estimate his age.

Qs 624-625 ask about the relationship to first sexual partner and the circumstances of first sexual encounter.
