Interviewer instructions
Check the woman's response in Q. 702. If she says that she wants to have a/another child, select the category 'WANTS TO HAVE A/ANOTHER CHILD' and ask the question under that option. If she wants no (more) children, select 'WANTS NO MORE/NONE' and ask the question under that option. There are many reasons that a person may not be using contraception, so listen to your respondent carefully. Select as many reasons as the woman mentions. The following are some guides to use in deciding which options to select:

· INFREQUENT SEX if the respondent says she is not sexually active enough to be using a method.

· NOT HAVING SEX would be the appropriate code if she says she is not sexually active at all.

· MENOPAUSAL means she is no longer menstruating and therefore cannot get pregnant.

· HYSTERECTOMY is an operation to remove her uterus.

· POSTPARTUM AMENORRHEIC-if the respondent says she is not using because she has not resumed menstruation since her last birth.

· SUBFECUND/INFECUND if she thinks she cannot get pregnant for reasons other than she is menopausal, has had a hysterectomy, or her period has not returned since her last birth.

· FATALISTIC means that the respondent feels that the pregnancy is predetermined by fate and she has no control over pregnancy.

· RESPONDENT OPPOSED means that the respondent herself does not approve of family planning.

· HUSBAND/PARTNER OPPOSED- if her husband or partner is opposed to family planning.

· OTHERS OPPOSED- if she says she is not using because someone other than her husband or partner tells her they are opposed to her using family planning.

· RELIGIOUS PROHIBITION means that she feels her religion does not allow the use of family planning.

· SIDE EFFECTS are undesirable consequences of using a method that do not adversely affect the health of the user. For example, side effects may be spotting or bleeding with the pill.

· HEALTH CONCERNS may be that she heard that the pill may be linked to breast cancer.

· INCONVENIENT would be if she considers the contraceptive methods to be too troublesome to use, such as being messy. This is inconvenient to use, but not inconvenient to get the method.

· LACK OF ACCESS/TOO FAR is if she says it is inconvenient to get the method for example because the health facility is too far.

· OTHER- if the woman's main reason is not listed as a response, write her response on the line for 'Other.'

DON'T KNOW- if the woman does not know at all why she is not using contraception.
